Consistent Chemistry Achieves
Abrasion Resistance

JADCO ChromeWeld 600™ is a unique material that is ideal for surfaces requiring high levels of abrasion resistance. ChromeWeld wear rates have been shown to outlast most every material, except ceramic.

Power plants, steel mills, coal prep plants and cement plants are the many environments where ChormeWeld is beneficial due to its cost-effectiveness compared to conventional abrasion-resistant steel, good impact resistance compared to ceramic and ability to be formed, welded, cut and machined with proper procedure.

Tech Data Sheet

The CHROMEWELD 600 plate is a mild steel backer plate clad wit overlay weld beads ¾” to ½” wide. The physical appearance of the plate will demonstrate numerous hairline cracks, which are a natural stress relief phenomenon. These cracks are beneficial to the material, by allowing the plate to be formed, bent, and rolled without damage. In general, the overlay chemistry of the CHROMEWELD 600 material is as follows:

Carbon: 4-5%
Manganese: 2.0%
Chromium: 28%-35%
Iron & Others Balance

The surface of plate is a composite of chromium iron carbides in a chromium austenitic matrix. Typical hardness of the CHROMEWELD 600 is 55-62 HRC, depending on the thickness of the overlay.

Stock Plate size is 90” X 120”.

CHROMEWELD 600 will withstand continuous moderate impact.

CHROMEWELD 600 overlay will remain abrasion resistant at temperature up to 1100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Fabrication of CHROMEWELD 600 may be accomplished
as follows:

  • CUTTING:
Plasma burning, air arc or abrasive saw cutting.
  • MACHINING:
The overlay surface can be finished by grinding only. EDM, plasma arc cutting or carbon-arc gouging may product countersunk holes for bolts. Pre-machines mild steel inserts may be welded into straight holes for additional machining. CHROMEWELD 600 can not be machined by ordinary methods.
  • COLD BENDING:
When using a press brake, forming should be perpendicular to the weld pass direction. Plate rolling should be performed in the direction of the overlay beads. Forming CHROMEWELD 600 to the outside will cause cross-check cracks to open. This may require post-fabrication weld repair using suitable weld rod/wire.
  • WELDING:
CHROMEWELD 600 overlay plate can be joined by welding substrate to substrate using weld wire/rod. Liner plates can be plug welded in place by welding the substrate to the base plate. Stud welds can be applied, but it is highly recommended that stainless steel studs be used. All weld seams, plug weld holes, bolt holes and all other joints exposed to wear should be protected by a cap weld of CHROMEWELD 600 weld rod wire.
