Where were you on August 8, 1980?

Do you can remember what you were doing when these major events occurred in 1980:

3. The Pittsburgh Steelers won their record 4th Super Bowl at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. Click Here for a video recap.

2. The Hockey Miracle On Ice – team USA beat the Russians in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY. Click Here for a video recap.

1. JADCO Manufacturing Inc., began August 8, 1980. Rather than revisit JADCO’s history again, Click Here for excerpts from a recent interview with our founder, Jim Davison.

There are more noteworthy events from 1980 at the end of this post to see how many you remember.

Jim Davison was 37 years old when he started JADCO after his rep agency was replaced after the steel company he was representing hired their own direct sales people, rather than use independent rep agencies.

Jim believes in treating people like they are family, and hosts different events and picnics each year.

This includes having the employees involved in important decisions to determine the direction of the company. Everyone is involved and they all benefit.

The management team (Left to Right) of VP of Sales Scott Rife, CEO Jim Davison and President Sam Anderson are also the principal owners of JADCO.

They have done a remarkable job of guiding JADCO through some turbulent social and economic times in the recent past.

JADCO REMAINS FAMILY OWNED while the majority of wear plate manufacturers today are owned by private equity firms.

Our largest competitors have been sold and re-sold between these investment companies. Their concern is strictly in maintaining a profit margin.

They are not very interested in how the customer benefits from a product application.

When concern for profit levels over-ride their focus on quality control and product performance; customer satisfaction comes in a distant third.

It is no wonder why so many of their former customers are now JADCO customers with lack of quality control like this competitor's CCO plate.

A perfect example are the competitors who make chrome carbide overlay (CCO) plate. The majority of CCO plate in the US is made by one company, and distributors slap their brand name on it and call it unique.

JADCO was not satisfied with the standard quality available in this manner.

To guarantee our customers would receive consistent quality, JADCO began to make our own CCO plate in house. JADCO installed their first CCO production machine in 2007. We now have more machines creating our CHROMEWELD ™ products than any other producer in North America.

To further guarantee consistent manufacturing results, JADCO has re-engineered the cladding equipment. We now build our own clad production equipment to make the CHROMEWELD ™ family of CCO products at JADCO company headquarters in Zelienople, PA; just North of Pittsburgh.

You can see the quality of the JADCO CHROMEWELD TM family of CCO products.

  • CHROMEWELD ™ 600 - has since became the CCO leader in the wear resistant steel industry.

By listening to our customer’s requests for more specialized products, JADCO has now developed the following CCO plates for specific applications:

  • CHROMEWELD ™ Ti – adding Titanium into the welding wire gives it remarkable ability to withstand significant impact. Chromeweld ™ Ti delivers 30-60% longer wear life than our CHROMEWELD ™ 600 in impact situations, and withstands higher temperatures, up to 1200°. The impact resistance can be compared to that of manganese steels.

  • CHROMEWELD ™ Nb Plus –weld deposit consists of primary chromium carbides combined with niobium carbides in an austenitic matrix. By adding Niobium (Nb) carbides to chrome carbides, we have it optimized to tolerate fine particles at high velocity and extreme abrasion.

  • CHROMEWELD ™ Complex – for ultra-demanding conditions we add small primary chromium carbides, with secondary Niobium and Vanadium carbides. The high concentration of these additional carbides greatly improves wear resistance and toughness over standard chromium carbide plate. CHROMEWELD ™ COMPLEX has a hardness of 64-68 HRC at high temperatures. On average you can expect a 50%, or higher, increase in life expectancy. An excellent option for ultra-challenging applications such has blast furnaces and sinter plants.

  • CHROMEWELD ™ W – is designed to withstand your most severe abrasion applications. We combine our premium CHROMEWELD ™ chemistry and add Tungsten carbides throughout the matrix. This gives a typical hardness range from 70-75 HRC depending upon the deposit thickness. The plate’s surface displays numerous hairline cracks which are crucial to the performance of the plate.

  • CHROMEWELD ™ GLIDE – is a machine ground CCO plate with a non-stick surface. This ultra-low coefficient of friction allows for reduced sticking in a variety of applications such as chutes, hoppers, and mobile equipment and truck box liners.
