How Frequently Do You Have To Change Your Screens?

If you utilize screens for processing coal, wood or recycling building materials; your screens endure constant abuse.

That is their only job.

Most OEM screens are made from AR400 material, which is not the same hardness throughout the thickness of the steel as we have covered previously.

When your screen has more open area than steel, the potential for annealing, or softening the remaining steel. At JADCO, we custom cut screen profiles to your design. Using an underwater plasma cutting table prevents annealing of the steel wear plate.

Many people still do not know AR400, AR450 or AR500 plate is softer in the center of the thickness of the steel. This results in a screen that appears to do well initially. After a period of time you likely noticed a short period of rapid, dramatic wear when you are forced to install replacement screen.

‘What did we get into that was so much harder?’, you may wonder.

The answer is the material you process is usually about the same hardness. You simply wore through the initial surface hardness on the AR400, called Case Hardened.

We can create any shape, size and open spacing for your equipment to deliver longer life and greater production.

Does It Seem Like We Continually Talk About Through Hardness?

This is because very few steel wear plates provide steel that is the same hardness through the thickness of the steel.

Having screens that deliver consistent, predictable wear is critical to planning your screen replacements at a time best for your production schedule.

For example; you installed a new ½” thick screen at the start the year. Your preventative maintenance check on the screen half way through the season shows your screen is now 3/8” thick. This means you can expect another 1/8” of wear to occur by the end of the season, leaving ¼” of steel remaining.

Compare those results to using an AR400 low-cost screen that fails suddenly during the season. Everything grinds to a halt at the worst possible time.

Now you have to scramble to get a screen to the crushing site, disassemble the equipment and install the replacement. Meanwhile truck drivers are lined up waiting for your material. The weather is hot and tempers are short.

Why Do You Choose To Put Yourself Through The Same Fire Drill Every Year?

Because there are better wear solutions for a little more investment, you must realize having another breakdown dead ahead is strictly due to your choice of a lower initial price. Yet this failure is never planned for in your crushing budget.

The insignificant price difference between the generic AR400 screen and a quality screen; is far less than the cost of just one unplanned breakdown caused by a failed screen.

What Material Should Your Screens Be Made From?

JADCO’s QT Plus ® usually delivers 3 to 5 times greater wear performance IN YOUR APPLICATIONS than the AR400 type wear steel you have previously used. Having the ability to create wear resistant steel having the same hardness throughout the thickness of the steel requires precise chemistry control and careful heat treating.

Why Doesn’t Everyone Make Their Steel To Last As Long As JADCO QT Plus ®?

This attention to detail at the steel mill in Pennsylvania is actually available to anyone. Yet most steel wear plate distributors choose to cut corners with their only goal is a lower price. They simply do not care how long it lasts in your equipment. They are quite happy to sell you more in a few months.

At JADCO, we prefer to deliver a screen made from the highest quality, longest lasting wear steel available. Our customers sleep easy knowing they will get the same long life they depend on, without worrying if there will be a catastrophic failure tomorrow.
