Wear Plate Vs. Road Kill

A few years ago I attended the Red Smith Awards Banquet in Appleton WI.

This sports themed banquet raises money for local high school sports programs by bringing in Big Name speakers and sports celebrities. Professional football players, baseball players, basketball, auto racing, hockey, and television and radio announcers have all graced the podium.

The main speaker this particular evening was Gene Keady. For 25 years he was the head coach of the Purdue Boilermakers basketball team.

Coach Keady’s teams appeared in post season basketball tournaments 18 times in his 25 years as head coach! Keady won a gold medal in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, as an assistant coach for the Dream Team. As the head coach of various USA Basketball teams, Keady racked up a record of 22–2, (.917) in four different tournaments from 1979 to 1991.

He had a comment that reminded me of people that are resistant to change.

I distinctly recall a line Coach Keady said. "Doing the same thing over and over again that doesn't get a win is like roadkill. You keep runnin' over that same 'possum & expect it to get resurrected. It is not going to happen.

You have to move forward and find a new way to win the game."

While I don't think Coach Keady ever heard of QT Plus ® impact and abrasion resistant steel from JADCO Mfg, his message was on the money.
