Responsible for developing processes to improve weld safety, quality, and productivity. Provide welding training/instruction for employees as needed. Conduct visual inspections to monitor weld quality. Provide weld instruction and technical support to shop and aid in improving the coordination and collaboration between departments.

Job Responsibilities:

• Develop welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment for problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production  specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles.

• Direct and coordinates weld/fit personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification.

• Conduct research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment, develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures.

• Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex post heating requirements.

• Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.

• Demonstrated leadership of Lean/Continuous Improvement.

• Work with suppliers as needed to improve the weld quality of products.

• Responsible for the safe work behavior and conditions within the weld/fit department.

• Follow instructions for production including all applicable drawing, quality and shipment specifications as given by the Operations Manager.

• Communicate effectively with other Productions Supervisors, Drafting personnel, office personnel, and Operations Manager.

• Encourage and build trust, respect and cooperation with all team members.

• Relate to all shop and office personnel in an ethical manner.

• Maintain appropriate behavior and compliance with procedures and directives.

• Maintains housekeeping within all work areas of the shop.

• Support and motivate shift members to perform to the best of their abilities.

• Inspire team to achieve and exceed established goals.

• Facilitate communication among all members within the shift.

• Provide guidance and direction to shift employees while monitoring performance.

• Encourage all members of the shop to stay on task and remain at their workstation.

• Interpret specifications, prints, job instructions, and company policies and procedures for employees.

• Monitor quality standards and specification requirements.

• Ensure team members are provided with work instructions and supplies necessary to complete work tasks.

• Communicate any discrepancies or issues on jobs that impact quality, scheduling and/or delivery.

• Abide by, communicate and enforce employee policies, practices, rules and requirements.

• Discipline and document worker performance issues including but not limited to attendance, poor quality or safety performance and/or behavior.

• Recognize favorable work performance through documented commendations.

• Communicate employee and personal suggestions for enhancing efficiency, quality, safety and continuous improvement.

• Handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve grievances and conflicts and confer with management or subordinates to resolve these issues, if necessary.

• Report, investigate and document all incident, accidents and injuries.

• Comprehension and utilization of the Company documentation, database program and other computer applications as appropriate or indicated by Operations Manager

Job Requirements:

• CWI Certified – Instruction & Inspection highly desired

• Minimum of 5-7 years in a technical role associated with welding processes

• Demonstrated leadership skills

• Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and safe work practices
